ITINERARY


Day 01: Kathmandu Arrival

We gather at our hotel by 4pm in time for our opening circle, yoga, meditation & puja at 5pm, and dinner at the hotel. Airport transfer is provided. 4 star hotel.

Day 02: Kathmanu ancient city, stupas, monkeys, monasteries & ritual

Highlights: Start the day with a yoga practice, visit important spiritual sites in Kathmandu, meet the monks at a local monastery (where we meditate), explore Kathmandu's largest stupa and experience an evening aarati (fire ritual). Dinner at the hotel and free time.

Day 03: Buddhist monastery visit

Highlights: After our morning yoga practices we drive to a large Buddhist monastery housing many monk gurus and their students, we spend some time here with the monks, and meditate overlooking spectacular Himalayan mountain views. The energy here is spiritually enriching. Dinner at the hotel and free time.

Day 04: Drive to Tibet

Highlights: Drive (around 10 hrs) up through Nepal and into Tibet. We have border checks to complete and meet our Tibetan guide, the drive continues through the beautiful Kyrong Valley and its villages, and to the hotel for yoga and meditation practices. Stay at the Hilton hotel.

Day 05: Acclimatise

Highlights: Today we take a slow day to acclimatise to the increasing altitude. This is an important day to avoid altitude sickness. Stay at the Hilton hotel.

Day 06: View Mount Everest

Highlights: Morning yoga practice followed by a 5 hour scenic drive past beautiful Pikutso Lake and Mount Everest. Afternoon meditation and yoga. Stay in an oxygen rich hotel, one of the best in the area.

Day 07: High passes, Sakya Monastery, Tibets's second largest city, Tashilhunpo Monastery

Highlights: Morning drive through stunning high passes and plains to the Sakya School of Tibetan Buddhism (Monastery 1073), then to Shigatse where we visit Tashilhunpo Monastery (1447) the seat of the Lama next in spiritual authority to the Dalai Lama - the Panchen Lama (an embodiment of the Buddha Amitabha, the Panchen Lama has a crucial role in choosing the next Dalai Lama (Gedhun Choekyi Nyima's abduction as a 6 year old boy by the Chinese govt is a political tool to undermine the reincarnation of the Dalai Lama, he is still forcibly held today). Evening yoga & meditation practices. Stay at the Hilton hotel.

Day 08: Tibetan culture and history, Pelkor Chode Monastery, Kumbum Stupa, hike to Gyantse Dzong (fortress)

Highlights: Morning yoga practices followed a short drive to Gyantse town rich in Tibetan history. We visit Pelkor Chode Monastery (1418) & a 35 meter high chorten (Buddhist shrine) with 100,000 images of Buddha, hike up to a Buddhist fortress with spectacular panoramic views, and explore local markets. Stay in the Nyangqu River 4 star hotel.



Day 09: Glaciers, a holy lake of dazzling waters, high passes, panoramic views, & culture & history in the valley of Tibetan civilisation

Highlights: After morning yoga we enjoy a scenic drive through Karo Lo Pass (5045m) with views of magnificent glaciers and on to the sacred turquoise lake - Yamdrok Yumtso. We travel another spectacular high pass with views of snow capped mountains to descend into a beautiful valley considered the cradle of Tibetan civilisation. Afternoon meditation. Stay in the Tsetang hotel, the best in the area.

Day 10: Tibet's first Buddhist monastery (a mandala from the 8th c)

Highlights: Morning yoga practices and a visit to to historical Samye Monastery (779AD), & Tibet's first royal palace, perched high on a hilltop, Yumbulagang Palace (127BCE). Evening meditation practice.

Day 11: Scenic drive to the capital - Lhasa

Highlights: Morning yoga practices then we drive a few hours to Lhasa past rivers, barley fields and nomadic Tibetan settlements. Free time in Lhasa, and an evening meditation gathering. Stay in the beautiful Songtsam Linka Retreat.

Day 12: Explore Lhasa - immerse in spirituality

Highlights: After our morning practice we visit the former residence of the Dalai Lama - Potala Palace (1649) where we can explore its chapels & tomb stupas and the beautiful view over Lhasa. We also visit Jokhang Temple (639AD) in Lhasa's old town - known as the spiritual heart of Tibetan Buddhism and walk the Barkhor circuit (a pilgrimage circuit around the temple spinning prayer wheels - to accumulate merit, purify karma, and benefit all sentient beings. The spinning of the wheels activates mantras within, which is believed to have the same effect as reciting mantras aloud. This practice is considered a form of meditation and devotion).


Day 13: Explore Lhasa

Highlights: Our last full day in Tibet starts with an early morning practice. We visit Drepung Monastery (1416), the former residence of the Dalai Lama, now with 1000s of monks, where we can learn about monastic life and Buddhist education, and in the afternoon we visit Sera Monastery (1419), famous for debates between monks, and have the opportunity to visit a a local Tibetan family home. In the evening we gather for our final yoga practices and closing circle.

Day 14: Retreat end

Highlights: Today you start your journey home or onward - inspired by your immersive practice, Tibet's rich spirituality, and many new friendships.

Who are Namastayz Yoga & Meditation retreats for?

Anyone! Anyone interested in starting yoga, anyone wanting to deepen their yoga wisdom, anyone wanting to inspire their yoga practice. Anyone who LOVES yoga &/or Meditation.


I have not practiced in years - will I be able to do the yoga?

Lets remember that yoga is a state of BEing rather than something we do. We do a range of practices that guide us toward the yoga state of BEing - which is chat sit ananda - the eternal bliss of pure consciousness. Those practices include asana (hatha, yin, Tibetan Buddhist yantra), meditation, guided meditations, IREST yoga NIDRA, philosophy talks, mantra, mudra, yantra, yajna, rituals, ceremonies, connecting with nature, visiting sacred places, temples, stupas or monasteries.


Do I have to do all the yoga & meditation practices?

No!! Everything on retreat is optional. You can choose to do all or none of the yoga depending on your personal intention.


What's included on retreat?

General inclusions are accommodation - 4 star where possible, some or all meals, airport transfers, travel guides when needed, transport around our destinations, entry fees to sites, daily yoga and meditation practices, & a tailor made Namastayz body/booty bag to keep essentials safe and handy. Some retreats include short flights between retreat destinations & your visa (Bhutan, Tibet). Please check each individual retreat for final inclusions.


Whats NOT included on retreat?

Your international flight from and back to Australia - although I do share my travel details so you can choose to travel with me, some meals on some retreats, spending money, alcohol, snacks, any extra excursions.


Who organises the retreats? and who teaches the yoga?

What is a TWIN SHARE room?

When you choose the TWIN SHARE option it means you are prepared to share a room with another person on the retreat who has also selected the TWIN SHARE option - you may not know this person. If you are travelling with a friend of course you can share your room just let me know before we leave Australia.


How do I pay & when do I need to pay by?

Your initial deposit, complete payment, or balance payment can be made through the NAMASTAYZ website. You can choose to pay CC, PayPal or Direct Deposit. You will a receipt. If you would like to enter into a payment plan after your initial deposit please contact me. I will issue you a plan to pay over 3 instalments depending on how much time you have before you leave. All payments are due 2-3 months prior to departure as stated on individual retreats. This allows us to make arrangements and book internal flights, and process visas when required. Please note failure to pay by due dates may forfeit your retreat and all monies paid are non-refundable. Funds may be transferrable on a case by case basis.
